About Rosie
& Barley Twist

A Natural Cook

Rosie Hiscock is no ordinary home chef. From an early age she has loved being inventive in the kitchen. From early cake-making with her grandma, (whose beloved mixing bowl she has now proudly inherited) she built a reputation among family and friends for making delicious dinners out of the most limiting ingredients when required. Moreover, during the past eight years Rosie has delivered many a fine food event, whether in skiing chalets in Méribel or Scottish fishing lodges; from six-course dinner parties to weekend entertaining.

‘The food you cooked for our guests was a real treat and everyone said how wonderfully delicious it was. Thank you for being so flexible with menu ideas to suit the occasion. We were so impressed with how organised you were, too, which helped make the evening very special. Your professional approach and calm disposition made it hugely relaxing for us.’

An Event Organiser, and Eventer

Importantly, Rosie has a professional background in large-scale event organising – a role she gamely fulfilled at a famous stately home while pursuing her cooking (and also riding) passions during her spare time. So, Rosie understands, not only what can be achieved by top caterers, but also the finer points of planning, service, and stress-free delivery for the whole occasion.

As for Rosie’s horse-riding, eventing with her beautiful and formidable thoroughbred, Tubby, is a happy accomplishment and Rosie frequently competes as an amateur with British Eventing. It’s a different discipline to cooking, but is absolutely not for the faint-hearted! From ‘double chocolate’ cup cakes to ‘double clear’ eventing rounds Rosie delivers with gusto!

‘Rosie is reliable, meticulous, clever, courteous, charming and full of energy. She is also highly creative and a fabulously good cook. Trust her: she will deliver with major flair and exceed all your expectations.’

Always Flexible

Whether you are after a full-blown dinner party with everything considered or a last-minute children’s birthday cake, Rosie and Barley Twist can provide. Furthermore, all Barley Twist’s services are flexible, so that the host/hostess can be as involved, or not, as desired. Barley Twist can either offer simple extra help and advice, or take full responsibility for complete delivery. Subject to scheduling, Barley Twist can also be present for extended periods. Or we can simply drop off specific items to order.

‘At our daughter’s recent wedding, Rosie catered for 2 days providing wonderful food for family, house guests and event staff.  She is professional, hard-working and a delight to have around.  She contributed majorly to our stress-free event and, importantly, all her food is delicious.’

Impeccably Ethical

Rosie is passionate about where the food she provides comes from. Its soil, growing or rearing; its seasonality and the care and nurture that has created it; and also the way it has been transported, stored, prepared and served: Rosie explains,

“A great culinary experience, from simple country fare to more complex celebratory extravaganzas, can be a lasting memory for many years, but it only happens when the sourcing and the creating of the dish are as carefully considered as the occasion itself.

“Great occasions with lasting happy memories come from delighting all the senses. I live in the beautiful Wiltshire countryside and my food, wherever possible, comes from my local surroundings.”

‘Rosie’s catering company Barley Twist was recommended to me when I was looking to have a cake made, to feed 30, for my 5 year old’s birthday party. They made the most beautiful chocolate cake, with little jelly men climbing up the side of it and across a sweetie rainbow! The kids loved it! It was also one of the most delicious cakes I’ve eaten in quite a while. Great service!’
